LONDON: Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) was selected as the Best Enterprise whereas its Vice Chancellor Brig. Gen. Dato’ Prof. Dr. Kamarudin Hussin was awarded the Best Manager by European Business Assembly (EBA) in Central London recently.
The recognition has made UniMAP as the one and only academic institution from Malaysia and its Vice Chancellor as the first Vice Chancellor to be accorded such recognitions. The handing ceremony was done in a grand fashion at the British Institute of Directors (BIOD), in conjunction with Summit of Leaders 2013.
Dato’ Kamarudin was quoted to say, ‘these accomplishments mirror are the testament of commitment and steadfast by the government of Malaysia in uplifting the quality of our higher education and it will definitely bring global attention to our educational system.”
“I am very pleased and grateful for these honors, it means that our hard work and perseverance are given due recognition not only in Asia but also in Europe. It shall serve as an impetus to all of us to emerge as the top 500 univeristies in the world by 2020.” He said during the interview.
The Summit of Leaders 2013 was attended by various dignitaries, political figures, institutional and corporate leaders from 32 countries from across the globe. Sir Richard Needham, a prominent political figure in the United Kingdom delivered the keynote address at the opening ceremony, calling for a more global approach in doing enterprise as well as utilizing the current technologies available to us.
The nomination for these awards were done by a systematic and careful screening using the open source system and committee members formed by members of educational institution, industry, and research centres from Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Switzerland and many more.
Among the criteria that has made Dato’ Kamarudin the perfect candidate for the Best Manager is being a positive model to the community and contribution in the field og innovation, science and entrepreneurship. On the other hand, UniMAP was chosen as the Best Enterprise due to its development in terms of professional as well as commercialization.
Former Malaysian recipients of awards from EBA Malaysia are Datuk Dr Abd Latif Mohmod (Director General FRIM) in 2011, Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah (PNB) in 2012.
